www.godaddy.com is pretty good. They were having a special last week (don’t know if its still on). I have used Yahoo and they have been good to me thus far, but most of my friends/co-workers use GoDaddy

Good luck!

What is the difference between a subdomain, add-on domain, and a parked domain?

January 26th, 2012 dean Posted in Domain Parking | 2 Comments »

Question by Moneypenny: What is the difference between a subdomain, add-on domain, and a parked domain?
I am a total newbie at everything related to website design, using my new control panel of options from InMotion.com. Can anyone help me distinguish the difference between these domain options: subdomain, add-on domain, and parked domains?

Best answer:

Answer by Red
Subdomain, basically it’s as if you have a website, say www.mysite.com, and you add forums, so you create a SUBDOMAIN that says forums.mysite.com, the “forums” part is the subdomain.

Add-on domain, frankly I don’t know, I’ve seen differing defenitions, however, my hosting provider means it so that you can add a domain onto a hosting account, so both domains point to the same web files.

Parked domain, typically just a domain being held for you, no site physically there, just parked and waiting to be used.

How do i get my Domain Name back?

January 23rd, 2012 dean Posted in Register a web address | 4 Comments »

Question by wendy2pendy: How do i get my Domain Name back?
No long ago i did a search to be sure that the web-site address i wanted to launch did not already exist. Convinced that it wasn’t existing, I went ahead to commission a web-site designer to register and design the web-site. I got the shock of my life some days ago when the designers told me that the name has been taken by a another person. My investigation revealed this “person” to be a site called “Domaincar” who specializes in using their computers to captures expired or pre-registered sites. Once you do a search, their system has a way of capturing that address (if it doesn’t exist) and register it. I am completely disgusted at this. I have written to them to transfer back to me the domain name, but they are yet to reply. Already i have incurred great cost on publicity for this site and i would love to know HOW DO I GET MY DOMAIN NAME/WEBSITE ADDRESS BACK? All suggestions would be appreciated, because i know i am not the only person affected by this kind of unethical practice.

You must be the person who registered it. By not registering it you have no rights to it and in fact you did exactly what these sites want you to do and that is show an interest in a site so they can park on it. You should have used somebody like Netsol to search for the address and then any of the dozens of trusted registars to register it the second you thought you wanted that address.

Now if you still want to have that address you have to show that you have a claim to that site and the current owner is just parking on it. The process will not be easy and will not be quick. I would suggest writting back to this outfit and ask them what they think is a fair fee for the domain name. If they come back with a number you are unwilling to pay then I would write them back that you are going to file a complaint with ICANN and you have the documentation to show they are illegally parking on the domain. This will probably get you another offer from them. To give you an idea the last group I had do this wanted $ 3000.00 for the domain which then came down to $ 500 when I talked tough.

Sorry but just like anything else you need to be fast and assume your going to get screwed in business. If there is anything we can do to help please contact us.

A Few Things to Get with Your Domain Name Hosting

January 21st, 2012 dean Posted in Domain Registries | No Comments »

Article by Justin Walton

Sometimes it makes sense to buy things in pairs. For example, you should probably buy a monitor when you purchase a computer since you’re going to need both. Besides, if you buy them at the same time and at the same place, you could end up getting a better deal. The same sort of things applies to domain name hosting as well. There are a few things that you should include in your package because they would integral to your site’s success.

As obvious as it may seem, you should make sure to register a name when you sign up for hosting. Sometimes, coming up with a name can be tricky, but you’ll get a better deal if you purchase one right from the get-go. Most hosting packages throw a domain name in for free, so it doesn’t make sense to purchase it separately. If you’re having trouble coming up with a name, turn to random pages in the dictionary for inspiration. Believe it or not, a good number of sites came up with their name that way. If you already have a name in mind but it’s taken, consider altering the spelling slightly or going with a different extension. Many sites choose the ?.net? or ?.org? extensions and you can too. Finally, consider purchasing the name you want from the current owner, assuming they offer it for a reasonable price of course.

Once you have a domain name and you’ve picked your hosting, you should make sure to sign up for private registration. Everyone who registers a name has to be added to the WHOIS service, including you. That service is in place so that anyone can look up the owner of a site in order to direct legitimate queries to them. Unfortunately, such a platform is also perfect for spammers. Thankfully, private registration allows your personal information to be shielded while still allowing legitimate concerns to get through. If you value your privacy at all, sign up for private registration.

If your site is going to have user accounts or host private information of any kind, you’re going to want to make sure to get a security certificate from your domain registry too. In essence, that technology encrypts data that gets sent back and forth to your site so that internet users don’t have to worry about their data being viewed by a malicious third party. Not only is this kind of technology good for your customers, it’s also good for your business too. Whenever people can feel safer on your site, your business will benefit.

Finally, you should look into getting email addresses associated with your site. Normally, most packages will throw in a number of email addresses for you but you’ll have to take care of the servers yourself. Anyone who has ever had to set up email servers can tell you that it’s a lot more complicated than it may sound. Fortunately, your registry can make things easy. They often provide professional yet affordable email hosting solutions that you can take advantage of. You can end up having email addresses associated with your domain name without the associated headaches that usually go along with that. Once you sign up for email hosting, everything will be in place and your site will be ready for success.

Don’t forget to sign up for domain private registration so that spammers won’t be able to look up your information. If your dedicated hosting solution can’t provide all the previously mentioned things, you should definitely shop elsewhere.

So you want to remove the parental filter without informing your parents? That’s very bad. I think you should rather talk to your parents and try to convince that you don’t see porn or anything (and they will know if you lie), and that K9 Web Protection is blocking some of your important sites. They will surely understand and either remove the software or unblock those specific sites for you. The software is there for good reasons; it shouldn’t be removed. :)

When it comes to Domain Registration?

January 19th, 2012 dean Posted in Low cost domain registration | 2 Comments »

Question by souper_saiyan2: When it comes to Domain Registration?
Where can I find someone reputable to register my domain with, at low cost, and no add on packaging?

Lets say, I want to get a domain name, and only that….for low cost and from a respected company. Where would I go?

I’ve searched the web many times, and I cannot seem to find anyone who can provide for me, a domain name that has full DNS control, affordable yearly rates, no add on products, and reputability.

Can someone tell me where to go???

P.S. Register.com and Go Daddy aren’t eligible answers, because Go daddy requires for one to have a job, and Register isn’t really in my price range yet.

Domain Name Appraisal ? Values of .Com?

January 18th, 2012 dean Posted in Domain Names For Sale | 2 Comments »

Question by OPFlGuy: Domain Name Appraisal ? Values of .Com?
What is the best place for getting an appraisal for a domain name.
Example. YourSeller.Com I put on the auction market and have had 2 different appraisals and they were both very different.
I have been selling domains for a while BUT I have been selling without appraisal and without advertising. People visit the domain and they all point to 1 area and there is a link that points to the domains for sale page and they are listed there. So if people are interested they just usually offer and at that point I accept or deny. I have seen SEDO and Domain after market but also looking for a better way to sell.
